How To Climb A Mountain

It is not just people who have physically climbed a mountain who know what it takes to take on and conquer a big goal. They know that somewhere along the road between the decisions to take on this big thing and reaching the summit, there is a place where an obsession develops.

That obsession has something to do with pain or pleasure. It has something to do with the fact that the pain and pleasure is bigger than the fear of failure.

Let me explain:  If you interview many people who take on big things, there is usually something bigger behind their motive.  A pain so big that they want to conquer it with a symbolic conquering of a big goal, like climbing a mountain, or a glory so sweet that the agony of reaching for the goal or summit that mountain, makes it all worthwhile.

And that is where the secret lies of how to climb a mountain. Finding and using the pain or pleasure as motivator.
If we could all find the motivator in our goals, we would reach them all.  But, unfortunately, we don’t.

We go after goals which are someone else’s idea:  We try and lose unnecessary weight because the world tells us that we need to be thin and slender to be acceptable; we work at jobs which decimate our families and lives because we think that being able to afford and show off the "bling" is a sign of success.  We fail at those things and then wonder why.  Then we go and see a shrink and take pills to make it all better.

The core problem is that we chase goals for the wrong reason – they belong to someone else’s idea of happiness.

If you chase a goal – make sure that the motivator belongs to you and you only, for the right reasons.  And then use that motivator to achieve anything you with.

What Is Your Reality?

Your reality is the company you keep – Choose wisely
(Scott Dinsmore – Live Your Legend)

This post reflects on the motivation we receive from our environment and the people we surround ourselves with.

I bet most people do not even think about how their environments and the people they surround themselves with, affect their levels of motivation every day.

I have a secret – when I feel disillusioned, disappointed, tired, low, unenthused, uninspired, not motivated and all those low, low feelings, I go to my motivational medicine – the people who inspire me and who I use as my inspiration every day.

They are

Just a few posts and wisdom from their blogs and sites is enough to drive away the cob webs and get my mojo back and change my reality.

I am proud to surround myself with inspiring people – it creates my reality.

Feed Your Motivation To Achieve Success

Finding, and then using your intrinsic motivation to achieve success, is possible the most powerful, yet understated success skill today.

Your own intrinsic motivation acts like rocket fuel – a silent, but unstoppable force that can drive you forward.  Therefore, it is such a waste that the majority of people do not know what motivates them, let alone how to use this invisible force to their benefit every single day of your life.

Think of it – your intrinsic motivation is already there within you – it does not have to be purchased, learned, acquired, borrowed, trained or gifted, it is there in it’s full potential, ready to be utilized.

So, do you know what motivates you yet?

If so, do you know how to use it to your benefit?

History reveals extremely successfulpeople who have learned how to use their intrinsic motivation for their success.

For example, one of the greatest writers of all time Mark Twain (real name Mathew Brady), was really inspired by discovery, adventure and imagination.  Therefore he seemed to “job hop” from one place to the other when he was younger.  Coupled with his exceptional observational and writing skills, he became a famous writer, but his real motivation was discovery and learning new things about the interesting world and interesting people around him.  Ever read his books?  If you had, you will notice that his writing intensifies when he described people or places in detail – he thoroughly enjoyed it.  Learning and discovering every last detail of a new adventure, person or place was his “fuel”.
Therefore, his writing would have seemed dull and worthless if he did not couple it with his motivation – discovery and learning.
Mark Twain did not become a great writer because he was a great writer, he became one of the greatest of all writers because he used his motivation in sync with his natural talent and that guaranteed his success.

Another writer, Andrew Carnegie, is a well known steel tycoon and philanthropist who said, “People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their other talents.”
He was motivated by philanthropy and building large corporations and his successes saw him amassing great wealth.
Andrew Carnegie was not motivated by money – he was motivated by building business empires – the money was a result of him using his motivation to establish corporations and wealth.

What is your motivation and your greatest natural talent or strength?  And how can you put the two together to achieve success.

Remember – it is already there, within you, just utilize it.

Let your light shine.

Where To Find Motivation

We cannot motivate others and we cannot be motivated by others. Motivation comes from within us. However, we can be inspired by someone else, their life or their journey, and we can use this inspiration as self motivation.
But how do we find motivation within ourselves when a goal or tasks seem too big to achieve or we just lack the energy and focus?

We can start by hanging around people who inspire us.

We can read their stories, their struggles and the solutions they came up with to overcome the obstacles in their way.
We can find strength in knowing that we do not have to struggle alone every day, that there are others out there like us. And their struggle does not have to be similar to ours, but it can take similar effort and resources to find the solutions – something which can inspire us to be more, do more and even achieve more.
It can inspire us to not give up on our goals and plans, or to come up with resourceful ways to overcome our obstacles. Make use of the inspiring lives of others to connect with your own goals and plans, to help you find motivation in parallels with the journeys of those who have already gone before and succeeded.

Remember, you have a choice about who you hang out with. It might just be true that those you choose to spend your time with will inspire you and drive your inner motivation, or it might be that they will drag you down to further depths of despair and darkness.

Change the environment and friends you have and see how much self motivation is stirred deep within you.

Don't EVER Give Up

Everyone who is in a journey of personal development will know that the road to success is never easy.  Sadly, most people give up to easily and too early.

The best advice I had in my life is to never give up - success comes to those who persist.

The other advice I had was that self growth and motivation goes hand in hand.  Like food and drink, you cannot live on one alone - you need the other to survive as well.

To make your journey towards achieving a goal, a success, you have to be involved in both personal development and use motivation to keep you going.

Here is a motivational video which I have watched over and over to keep me motivated to

6 Ways to Stay Motivated While Working on Your Progress

If you have been working hard on your way to success and you are feeling frustrated by the slow progress and apparent lack of success, then rest assured, you are not alone.

The discouraging statistic that 95% of people, who try to work through a personal development plan, fails, are not helping either.  It is almost as if you are set up for failure!

But, there is hope for someone new to personal development plans who find the going tough and there are some ways to help you Motivation and Inspiration while working towards your success and be in the 5% who will achieve success in the end.

What can you do to stay motivated?  Here are six ways:

Find your motivation:  There is ALWAYS a reason for you wanting to break away from another job or career, or change any large parts of your daily existence.  Change is scary.  People have different reasons and you need to find yours.  Ask yourself "WHY am I doing this?"  Then write that reason down in big, bold, red letters, paste it against the wall above your desk or computer, surround it by visual pictures which represent that reason, so you can see it every day.  This will help you stay motivated when you are losing hope, and subconsciously program your mind for success.

Focus:  It is very easy to become "scatterbrained" when trying to deal with all the aspects of following a personal development plan or actions towards goals.  There is such a great variety of offers and products and niches that it is really easy to lose track of what you are trying to do.  It can be a little like building a jigsaw puzzle and I recommend that you try and get one piece learnt, implemented and in place, and then move on.  Choose one thing and focus on it, rather than scattering your time and energy on different places at a time.

Measure your success:  If you have been at it for a while, and have not seen any real success, don't be discouraged too much.  Success is not always measured in money, that is true both for many things in life.  Ask yourself:  "What have I learnt; what have I accomplished as far?"  Those things are the building blocks and just as important as the end result.

Connect with others:  If you identify and connect with others in the same position or on the same path, you will have access to a range of experience, people at different levels of success and who will be able to give you pointers, tell you their success stories and help you get over some obstacles.  Sign up to a forum in your field of interest and participate regularly.

Make it a hobby!  When I started out in my personal development planning, I made it a hobby - that way I did not expect much from it other than enjoying what I was doing.  Well, guess what happens when you are doing something that you enjoy...SUCCESS.

Time lag:  The only thing standing between you and success, in the end, is time.  Time lets you learn the skills you do not have yet; ...and time lets you figure out ways of doing things better for more success.  Give it lots of time!

Following a personal development plan can be tough, but the benefits are great.  I am now convinced that your success will, most of the time, not depend on your technical skills, but your motivation and focus to keep it going when the going gets tough.
Use the above motivational ways to keep your motivation up and do not forget to reward yourself for your success.
